I thought so too until the fuel pump went bad in my 77 Gremlin.  I had not been checking the oil level when refueling and by the time I discovered the problem the oil pan was so full that oil was blowing out of the dip stick tube and cruise rpm.  One quart of leakage from a bad fuel pump is certainly possible.
