You can actually do it either way.
The running way takes a little time to get used to, but you can get a great setting doing it that way as it allows you to tweak slightly for noise if you want.

Stagnant is a little more "percise" but, if you get a ticker you wont know it till you fire it back up!

We always did the imports running as they would cool enough over the time it took to get front to back to screw things up!
Aluminum heads do that!
