89 ii internal and an AX15 unless it's a changeover model from close the year change.
AX15 went external slave in 94 and IIRC you can convert with a bellhousing and a few odds and ends.
Worth doing if it's a lifelong keeper.
May not be worth doing in the rustbelt on a darn near 20 year old vehicle depending on how the salt has been treating it!

Thanks for the replies everyone!

 yes, it's an AX-15 -and- it has the internal
hydraulic slave cylinder.

 yes - I added DOT 3 Brake Fluid to the small 
resivoir.

weird - the clutch pedal firms up when I hit
the brakes.

yes - still able to get around -- not gear grinding
or 'bang shifting' yet.


The '89 has some rust issues - but the engine is 
incredible & the trans has no issues so I'll collect
the external slave '94 Bellhousing & external slave
cyl. & whatever other parts necessary.


Then it all goes to the local High School Auto Shop
for the install & a new clutch disc.
