[Amc-list] weekend of drivin

so, i put about 450 miles on casper this weekend. averaged 21.6 mpg. crossing 2 passes over 4500' elevation, and 2300-2500 at the bottoms with speeds between 55-65. not to shabby i though.

fri, before all the cruising, had to get a tire replaced. while the tire was off, noticed why my steering has so much play and any little groove in the road will jerk it from one direction to the next sometimes. my idler arm bushing/bearing what ever it is, is SHOT. there is a TON of play in there. www.partsamerica.com (who is the website for checker, shucks, and kragen autoparts) shows an idler arm bushing. does anyone know if it is the right bushing?

had no problems at all on the entire trip really. i stopped at the nearest gas on the way home, and noticed coolant coming up thru one of the hood seams. some reason, it started losing coolant around the cap, instead of it going down the little drain hose, and i know that the drain hose aint plugged. 1/2 gallon of water and it was topped off and didnt do it again. it never got over 190* while pulling the mountain passes and all. out here in the west (eastern oregon to be specific) some of you know, we have STEEP passes. about 3/4 throttle to hold 60 all the way up. i did have to turn the timing back a bit. i had it set at about 30* from before when i was tinkering with it before tom j started doing his timing tinkerin. never turned it back. that much timing for initial is WAY to much when it starts going up hills. dont ping, just no power. kicked it back to about 15 or so, and it pulls good and hard there. not heating up or anything. not sure what total
timing is there. i dont know how much advance it gets.

but anyway, was my stepsisters wedding i had to go to. about 150 miles away from me here. the new brid/groom were somewhat interested in using it for the honeymoon-mobile... due to my mom telling them how cool it was the seats made a bed.... lol.

anyway, great weekend of cruising in the old casper ride.
