a few years ago, my friend the engine builder took apart a sbc race
motor he'd freshened up a few times and found signs the pistons had
been touching the heads.
this was routine maintenance; there were no signs of trouble. but the
engine had been turning 6500-7000 all season... he measured squish at
.018".
