Actually that's pretty straightforward, and tends towards my sort of 
Rambler Mentality :-) Do it with a voltmeter!

He seems to be using a non-wideband sensor (was written in 2002). It 
would never have the accuracy that the wide-band one would, but hey, 
they're what, $20 now!?
