first off your 360 sould easily make 350 Hp with little work. Just clean the casting flash from the ports on the heads and do a gasket match on the heads to the intake. Get a holley 650 double pumper and you shoudl do just fine. Summit big cam, roller timming chain roller rockers. SUre it will cost a bit more then the 327 but you will not have to modify anything cause amc fits and belongs there. Unless your doing all the fabrication work yourself it will cost less in the long run to stick with the 360. I can't immagine it being too much trouble finding a decent running 360 for under 600 bucks. 
   Case in point,
   I took a 360 from an 82 wagoneer. 100.00 striped it to a shortblock cleaned it added a 540 lift cam, summit roller timming set, new gaskets, race oil pump, a set of ported 502 casting # heads roller rockers, torker intake holley 650 DP and made 400 HP the short block was STOCK with stock cast pistons and 140K miles on it.
   Pushed my 3100 LB gremlin to 12.6 @ 107 MPH

The 327 I'm looking at is a rebuilt crate engine with 350hp, if I'm 
lucky my 360 will be pushing around 300hp with the Carter AFB and Offy 
Dual-Port I bought. I may keep my 360 If I can find a good rebuilder 
that offers a decent warranty and will be cheaper than the $2400 the 
327 crate motor costs. Do you know of anybody thats good at rebuilding 
AMC's in the Midwest area?
