[Amc-list] HOT ROD: AMCers hate us!

In the current issue of HOT ROD, there's a special section up
near LETTERS about all the hate mail AMCers sent them.

<rant>

I almost can't believe so many AMCers wrote hate mail HOT about
the AMC April Fools article. OK, I can see being fooled for
a minute (umm, that was the point...) but come on, how could
anyone really believe that

(1) a long-dead manufacturer could somehow revive itself
    in this dark era for U.S. car making
(2) without anyone noticing a buildup of manufacturing plants
(3) having done so, that they'd revive 30 year old models

"The only thing worse than being talked about behind your back,
is not being talked behind your back" -- dying in silence is
far, far worse than a little joke, backed up by some genuinely
enthusiastic what-if drawings of updated old cars.

There's three AMCs in the first 20 pages of the current issue,
for someone's sake. HOT ROD, and the car world in general,
doesn't hate AMCs like they used to. Especially now that Ford
and GM are both pulling "AMCs", business-wise.

That AMC-hating thing was a generational issue; kids don't have
that "brand" baggage crap that we grew up with. It's over. Drop
it. They're all old cars now, and more and more appreciated
for what they are.

If you go back and look at that article again, you'll see that
the drawings were lovingly done by someone who really likes AMC
cars. Even if those are not how you personally would imagine
them to look like.

My father got me a sub to HOT ROD a couple of years back. I
really wanted to hate it. It's filled with camaros and vettes
and all the usual common stuff -- but there's been a solid
thread of novel cars, and lots of AMCs, certainly compared to
the past! Some of the how-to articles are actually good. It's
part of the reason I'm drifing towards customs and hot rods,
using AMC as a base. Camaros and Novas pay the rent I guess...
