Just to add to what Dave said, it's just about that easy. I always jack the car up by the center of the rear axle with a floor jack going under the car from the rear, disconnect shocks, all brake lines, and take the tires off. Then let the body down on jack stands placed just in front of the rear wheel wells on the lift pads or "frame" rails. With the tires off the axle drops far enough to remove the springs. Unless you really need to remove the tube from the axle there's no need to take the truss rods loose, just leave them alone unless they are damaged. 

With the axle and tube out, check the u-joint. It will likely be as tight as a new one, but check it anyway since the tube is out, and if any doubt replace. Also replace the rear rubber brake line. That's often overlooked and very important! Replace the rear seal in the trans if you can find one, but again, it's not likely to be leaking on a torque tube car. The seal and u-joint are protected inside the tube and rarely fail.

I recently had a big stroke of good luck, and came across a 1962 Rambler 
Classic which was for sale not far from where I live. I took the Mrs. to 
have a look at it and it was nice, but since I have a driveway full of 
older vehicles, I did not press the idea too hard, but finally got my wife 
to suggest that I call the guy back, and it was still available, so it 
ended up at my house. 

I have NEVER worked on a Torque Tube car. Had a 65 Marlin for years, 
but never did anything with the Torque Tube. 

The FSM says to unhook the Panhard rod and the braces from the axle 
ends to the tube, and then unbolt the tube, and then move the axle 
rearwards to take the tube out. 

Is it REALLY that simple? Are there any "gotchas", or points to look out 
for? Anything to be sure to do while I have it apart?
