Re: [Amc-list] (4.0L welch plugs)

Yeah, I know some guys say the renix or earlier blocks are stronger castings.
I've heard use renix or post 96 blocks.
I doubt either of these is post 96 though.
I'll have to get the date codes.
The small core plug block has more wear on it, so as of right now, I think I will try and get the newer block drug outside and ball hone it out and make sore there are no pits or corrosion hiding anywhere.
If that all seems good I'm thinking of ordering a new set of standard bore pistons to ensure I get as tight a piston clearance as it'll get and avoid any danger of hidden damage swapping the old pistons over.
I forget which pistons have the depest stock dish, but I can find it by searching it out. If theire the ones Iooked at online last night their about $24 a piece. Still keep me under $200 in cash outlay for the shortblock, talk about Rambler mentality. I'd not consider doing this except this block is really what appears to be a near zero wear block.
No ridge, top or bottom, still shows hone marks in the bottom even where the skirts run to the bottom, no sign of any damage, except a few very light areas of rust, that clean right off with a fingernail.
If I leave the block standard bore and use the deepest dish as cast pistons that should keep the compression right at 9.2-1. I just need to pick a cam that bleeds off a bit and rpms out to about 52-5500rpm. I may get the limiter pulled from the ecu at some point. Hesco was offerign that service for a while.
I don't drive it near as much as I thought I would when I built it, so I'm thinking this go around would be nice to get it to be just a little bit more performance orientated, maybe a few passes on the quarter mile would be good for me
I copied this over to the strokers list as I'm sure they'll be somewhat interested.
I don't really plan on jumping this plan into instant action be mor elike a get the shortblock done they sneak up on it as the winter gets here.
:]
