The only problem I ever had with BBD carbs was when the bottoms of the bowl corroded.
When those pits start appearing in the bottom it always seemed to spell the demise of that carb,
The only thing I could figure is that pieces of the metal would come out of the pitted areas and either plug the jets or cause other issues due to corrosion remnants.
   A new carb being available is a big thing for 20+ year old cars.
