WOW, I guess I stopped looking to soon!
I doubt you will get much closer than that.
If the register hole is right, drilling and counter sinking a few holes would be a piece of cake!
Talk about a darn near bolt up deal...
For a 196 swap, go find an S-10 mechanical speedo drive trans with a 3:76 first gear swap to the ford main case and and drop it in! 
  Would clear bench seat and all...
You'd probably want a Ford input too depending on the final depth.
  If I was doing a swap that adapter sure looks like a good starting point.
Should probably be the one that'll work behind the 199-232 and 71 258 too.
