Another option for cleaning rust from larger parts, would be to set a metal 55-gallon drum up on bricks, put 3-4 bricks down into it flat, with HD metal screen on top.  Then build a small fire under the barrel to warm the water up.  Should prove to work quicker than the sun-heating method, if you have the ?facilities? to do so.
