The hubs stick to the drums in a few places.

One, around each lug. Sometimes they're even crimped to the
drums.

Two, the center hole. It's a close fit, water gets in there
and it rusts/freezes.


First, get PB Blaster or my favorite, AeroKroil. WD40 is better
than nothing.

Get a 6lb hammer, and a stout block of wood, like 4" of a
4x4. Place the drum on a concrete surface, lugs up.

With a 1/8" drill bit, drill about 1/8" or less deep into the
joint between the hub and drum, where the drum goes over the hub
center.  That's where it freezes. Then squirt some Kroil (etc)
into there. Wait a minute or two for it to creep in, add more.
Soak the hub:drum interface, and the lug/drum interface.

Put the block of wood on the hub end (where the bearing and
dustcap goes).

POUND THE LIVING CRAP OUT OF THE BLOCK OF WOOD until the hub
falls onto the ground.

It will. The drilled hole also alleives stress around that
ring. You can drill more than one hole around that circumference.

I once had a drum become concave on top, where it gripped the
hub tight enough. But unless that happens, the little drilled
holes do not affect fit or reliability of the drumor hub.



If the lugs are not handsome-looking, you can remove those also.
Screw a lug nut onto a lug, until the nut is flush with the lug
end, and pound it out. There's serrations on the lug gripping
the hub. This is easier to do when the hubs is STILL frozen to
the drum.

If you're ingenious you can pull new lugs through the hub with
a sacrificial nut and washers, or pay a shop to press them in.
Buy new lug nuts if you do any of that.



When you put the new drums on, wirebrush it all clean and put
a thin layer of grease at the hub/drum interface. It just keeps
water out.
