ford used a little tranny very much like - if not actually - the t96,
on falcons etc with the 144/170/200 from '60 up to about '65/'66.  if
bolt patterns aren't the same, perhaps a hybrid ford/amc t96 could be
concocted...

these engines must be at least 200lbs lighter than the nash lump of
iron.  they're about 30 years newer in casting tech.
