Take a look at Tom's pics, especially the two of the engine bay (scroll down). http://wps.com/AMC/1970-AMC-Hornet/May2005.html You'll note that the bottom of the wiper motor mount area has about an inch of space from the notch he put in the back of the aluminum valve cover. Getting to the back two bolts is difficult in a Jeep or even an American (or my 63 Classic) -- I can't imagine HOW Tom gets to them, though he says he can tilt the cover off with the notch without jacking the engine. Without the notch there might be 1/4" of clearance, that's it. The engine will fit, but you have to have the valve cover on when you put the engine in (or head on), otherwise you can't lift it far enough to get it on without lowering the engine (crossmember). --------------- Date: Thu, 21 Feb 2008 22:04:02 +0000 From: Wrambler242@xxxxxxxxxxx I wonder how or why the firewall on an American allows the 4.0L head with no sweat and the Hornet/Gremlin body does not? -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AMC.html (free download available!) _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
