Only if you're going for high boost. Most Holley 4Vs will take 20-22 psi. If you plan on modest boost in the 10-16 psi range carb cost shouldn't be to much of a problem. As with anything, the more power you want, the more you have to spend.

Blow Thru Carbs, gone thru for Turbo application
run $600 to $1k. and you'll still be stuck
with problems you won't like after coming
this far.
