Re: [Amc-list] technical service manuals!

Brent Havekost has a complete list of all 1936-88 Nash/Rambler/AMC TSMs at http://nashparts.com/Techman/techman.htm. Brent also sells TSMs, use the link above.

There are 38 1936-57 and 59 1958-88
manuals listed. There are no supplements listed for the 84-88 Renault era Eagle manuals (M.R. 251 & 254.... does "M.R." stand for "Manual, Renault"??). Wonder if there are any, or if any additional info was just put out as Technical Service Bulletins? There were few changes made to the Eagle after 84.

I have the 36-38, 42, and 41-48 Nash TSMs, 1950 Nash Supplement, and 52 and 55 TSMs (don't have the Nash-Healey supplements or the 55 Nash Hydra-Matic supp, but have the Hudson Hydra supp -- both are the same except for cover). From 1956-83 I have everything but a few supplements. No point in having that many unless you're looking for minute detail changes, are a real AMC history buff, or produce an AMC magazine ;>.

For the big cars I'd recommend one from each of these five ranges to cover about 80% of all items. There will be some differences, such as type of disc calipers, but 80% or more will be the same.

58-61, covers most of 56-57 also (56-62 use the same floor pan even though the upper body changed, but there were some changes in 62 to front suspension and torque tube. If you have a 62, you need a 62 TSM. 56-57 TSMs have supplements for V-8s, engine part is the same as 58-61 though. You'll want a 56-57 to cover body items if you have one of those)
63-66
67-69 (68 begins covering all models in one TSM)
70-74
75-78

For Americans:
58-60
61-63
64-69 (64-69 will cover most things, but no V-8s in 64-65. If you have a big car manual for 66+ you should be 80% covered though)

Javelins:
68-70
71-74

Hornet/Gremlin
70-75

Concord/Spirit
77-83

Pacer
76-80 (there is a Pacer only 75 TSM)

It's easy to see that a collection of 8-10 TSMs will cover 80% of all the different bodies. Some details will be different, but unless you're looking for elusive little changes from year-to-year there will be no problems. For those things post a message on the list!

To the best of my knowledge, there are 58 volumes from 1958 through
1988, including multi-volume years and supplements. It doesn't count
the supplements to MR251 (Eagle Mechanical) and MR254 (Eagle Body)
