Re: [Amc-list] why "upgrade"? (vent window seals)

You can try "rebuilding" the vent window seals.
1. Clean the seal real good with paint thinner or mineral spirits.
2. Open the vent window all the way and put a light coat of oil on the sealing edges, being careful not to get any on the rubber seal.
3. Put a light coat of black RTV on the seal where the window will close against it when shut.
4. Shut the window and wipe any excess RTV off.
5. Let it set up for 24 hours.
6. Open the windows and trim any excess RTV with a razor blade/knife.

This will help seal any leaky spots, at least for a while. Don't forget to wipe the seals with silicone on occasion to keep them pliable. You could also try wiping with carubretor cleaner. It swells rubber, so be careful! Too much and the seal may become distorted and pop out -- in other words, be ruined.

Haven't taped anything yet.
It has repro door seals in it.
It's a sedan.
Noise appears to be coming directly from the vent windo area. I figure since the door seals are still in good chape it is likely the wing seals.
I'll have to look at it better next time I get a chance to get it out.
