I don't know why more people have not picked up on the useability of the 94 up T5's either!
That long input leaves plenty of room ofr adapter plates!
The shifter is somewhat moveable by using S10 or other tailshafts also.
It's way stout enough for an early six, even a tinkered with 232.
I have pounded on my non world class 82 Spirirt T5 quite a few times and it is still holding up.
a World class spec T5 would last a long time behind a 196! 
  I can understand Tom not wanting to loose the twinsticks coolness factor though.
He may get over that if the thing dies after he gets it fixed!
I hope not for his sake, but they are a very marginal trans. He is very mechanical though and that is what it takes to drive one succesfully!
