There's also the fact that since the front brakes do 70% or more of the 
braking due to mass shifting, having the rears lock first means they stop 
braking and begin sliding, complicating steering and contributing added 
braking load to the fronts. The tire patch only has so much grip, the sum 
of turning and braking.

Really good ABS probably is the way to go, but who needs the complexity?
