[Amc-list] Wheel Stuff

I said earlier that I had a bent wheel on my 77
Gremlin (14 inch steel wheels). That was after I
powdercoated the wheels so I wasted $50 on that wheel.
One lives and hopefully learns I guess.

I need to replace that wheel. Problem is, I don't
know how wide the wheel is and have no way of
measuring accurately unless I take it back to the tire
shop and have them use their wheel calipers or
dismount the tire and measure the wheel. Looks like
I'll be making a trip to the tire shop.

I have AMC 14 x 5 1/2 inch wheels here at home but I
don't have any 5 inch or 6 inch wheels which the TSM
says were used on the 77 models. I did measure the
back spacing on these wheels (14 x 5 1/2) and found
that it is 3 3/4 inches. The 14 x 5 1/2 inch wheels
came from a 69 Javelin.

I also have some 14 x 6 Ford wheels but the center
hole is too small to fit the disk brake AMC hubs. I
had heard this before, but I proved it today.

I'm trying to get ready to drive to the southern
Nevada AMC show later this month and will need to
determine my wheel width and hopefully get another
wheel powdercoated before the meet. My cheap
powdercoater went out of business and the two shops I
checked wanted $80 and $125 respectively to sand blast
and powdercoat one wheel. I could just paint another
wheel, if I can find one, but the powdercoating on the
other three wheels looks so nice and is so durable
that I'm spoiled.
