Yeah, you're probably right... and most things in there degrade over time 
rather than fail suddenly.

Yeah, a huge chassis of mercury thyratrons! Would probably consume most of 
the generator's output! Don't slam the hood -- tubes will shatter and 
create an EPA Superfund site!
