Thanks for all the tips.   I think I'll try Mark's drill & tap scenario
before I go cutting holes in the floor.   I'm 95% sure the kid will
trash the Jeep long before it needs new shocks, so I'm not worried about
a permanent solution!!

Okay.  What you did and what that solution does is very different.  Its
a permanent solution to the problem.  What was your solution to stop it
