Dave, In this particular case, a shock absorber that is dimensioned so that it will fit your front suspension is also used in some other application too. This information is important only if you need to scrounge one from a donor car, it gives you a place to look for it. It is not altogether uncommon that a shock may have multiple applications and more or less get the job done. The basic problem you have in obtaining shocks for your car is that they are now obsolete for the most part and unavailable in any combinations of levels unless there is a big enough market in the collector market to make an out moded or obsolete shock of any kind. The word o.k., sort of implies that for some people it would make them happy but for others it would be either too soft or too hard so to speak. In this particular case it is the only one available or one of two that are available and there may be a coast differential, but the bottom line is it is either that or nothing. Now maybe with this information and the help of a good parts man you might be able to cross this into some other application, but then again, maybe not. When I put together a shock absorber cross reference that can be seen at the following url www.amccf.com <http://www.amccf.com/> I researched a number of manuals that I had to find a whole series of cross references and for the front of the '70 Plus front suspensions in two wheel drive all of the parts interchange from 1970 through end of production. But for example in Gremlins, which can be had with 4, 6 and V8 engines there would be specific shocks called out. not only for the engine but whether it had A/C or not. However what ever was called out could be used in all applications even it it was not referred to as such 'cause they would fit! And lacking the availability of some choices a shock could probably be found no matter where you were when looking for it. As you have discovered a shock for your application is hard to find. It may be that you have them custom made as suggested by one of your suppliers OR make do with what you can find that will fit 'cause that is the only choice you have. Good luck on this, I hope the information proves useful to you and if you find an alternative I would like the information so I can add it to my AMC shock list.
