Re: [Amc-list] Wheel Balancing!

I CAN get steel wheels dismounted.
20 years ago I bought an old beat to death 10/10 machine [IIRC that is what it is called?].
It's just a post with an hydraulic cylinder.
The shop had the cylinder rebuilt but the base kept cracking. They had it welded and it cracked again.
I bought it for $20!
Installed a peice of all thread to add support to the outer lip of it on the side it kept cracking on. The rotation of the cylinder is limited by the all thread, but it is easy to work around by turning the wheel instead of the cylinder.
I bought a manual changer from harbor freight to get the bar as it was cheaper then buying a bar from Coates or another company! So I have like $60 in it and it does everything I need it to do.
  It makes it nice to be able to strip down wheels from tires for scrap too. We have an anual free tire drop here in WV. IIRC we can drop like 8 tires for free additional are $1 a piece. I usualy drop 8, then send my wife in with 8 more the next day if needed! They just have you sign a line on a form and as far as I can tell never compare them for addresses etc;

  I used bubble balancers for years, With good tires they do fairly well, but if you get a troubled child tire, it is hard to get that little bit of vibration out.
   I guess one owuld likely be fine for me now. Back then, the dealer bought a lot of recaps and cheap crap tires. What I buy would likely be fine.
