Well, I tried the following in this order. The head bolt mod (oil flow 
volume still the same by sight), replacing non rotating pushrods with some 
from my spare engine (remained nonrotating), and replacing entire 
rockershaft with rockers (also from spare engine). The noise(s) was the 
same. The spare engine in known to be quiet......on top.

The only thing I should have done before I dissassembled was to check how 
far the pushrods push the lifters after I screw down the rocker shaft. I may 
need some slightly longer.

Anyway, upon dissassembly I found the non rotating lifters had a definate 
single wear spot. The two lifters that were spinning like crazy had light 
circular gouges. I think the lobes or base circles had a a bur in them and 
were really whipping them around (possible noise cause). All the others had 
what appeared to be a good even circular wear pattern on them (when compared 
to the others, and I don't have my old ones to compare to anymore).

The coresponding (used) cam lobes to the non rotating lifters had new wear 
spots on them. They were not the width of the lobe, and were not to either 
side. They were slightly off center to the rear of the cam and covered 
roughly 2/3 of the width of the lobe. So, the new lifters didn't seem to 
wear the angle out of the cam's lobe. The angle was already gone.

So, I have a cam and lifters comming in the mail. I'll put it back together, 
check the pushrod length. and report back again.
