[Amc-list] PORSCHE 914 - 'the Myth / the Machine' -

" Elitist !
"
" -vw- 914 "or" PORSCHE 914 ?
"
"
" 2.0 4cyl. is listed as a PORSCHE engine
" and there was controversies as to it being
" a 'VW' motor - it isn't.

remember the -vw- type IV? iirc the 1.7 and 2.0 were known as the
type IV, and the car likewise. this is the motor used in the 914-4.

yes, the chassis were all assembled in the same place. 914-6s got
better suspension hardware as well as better drivetrains. a shame the
torque boxes tend to rot out so fast.

Yes, the last 914 I found, the owner left the roof insert
off - car was loaded with every Factory accessory

 - which
made it all disheartening

:

Car was folded up across the floor bulkhead.....RIP.

Mom had a brand new 1972 Type IV - Icy Silver Blue Station Wagon - rare - .

Interior appointments were lush - had AC - and would barely
get out of it's own way - which is why she traded it in
on a cream Yellow Mercedes 280 - 1973 - and that bastard
screamed!

All alloy DOHC EFi Inline 6 backed by a four speed automatic.

Clutch pac was so tight the car would 'squat' hitting 2nd gear.

Could'nt understand how a car with such small front springs
and tiny control arms rode so well and handled that great -

I look at my Kammback front suspension - with big everything
and go blank.....anyway..... figure out that one later.

Funny thing is - the VW sales personel claimed the Type IV had
a PORSCHE engine in them.....part of their sales schpeel -
hence MY confusion ..- .
