A: I understood from my short time working at GM that the 2.8 et al are 
related to the design for the Caddy 4.1-4.9 V8s which were originally 
designed for Buick. I know in Canada the Buick FWDs came with the 2.8 V6 
several months before the Chev Citation was available.

correct.  just confusion as to who created the 2.8.
