" Nope, available in 5w-30 for your Viewing Pleasure.

according to
http://www.mobil.com/USA-English/Lubes/PDS/GLXXENPVLMOMobil1_Truck_SUV_5W-30.asp
it's sm/sl/sj rated which means -low- zddp, and from
http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Oils/Mobil1_Truck_SUV_5W30.aspx
i quote:
Note: This product is not recommended for diesel engines. Use new
Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40 for diesel engines.

that oil, from
http://www.mobil.com/USA-English/Lubes/PDS/GLXXENPVLMOMobil1_Turbo_Diesel_Truck_5W-40.asp
is rated cf/cg/ch/ci, but only sl/sj which means less zddp than older
ratings.

from the faq pg:
Mobil 1 15W-50 is being reintroduced based on popular demand. Mobil 1
15W-50 provides higher viscosity, desvgned to provide extra protection
for performance vehicles and vehicles that operate in severe service,
such as towing, hauling and racing. Additionally, Mobil 1 15W-50
contains higher levels of anti-wear (ZDDP or Zinc
DialkylDithioPhosphate) that may be required for certain racing
applications and camshaft designs. This is a new Mobil 1 15W-50
formulation and is not the same as the product that was marketed a few
years ago.

it appears that -only- the 15w50 has this higher level, but otoh it's
rated sm/sl/sj which suggests it doesn't.

their 10w40 racing 4t oil formerly known as mx4t and their 20w50
v-twin oil,
http://www.mobil.com/USA-English/Lubes/PDS/NAUSENPVLMOMobil1_Motorcycle_Oils.asp
are their only ones with sh, sg/cf ratings indicating high zddp
levels. the testing on the www.lnengineering.col/oil.html page
confirmed this.

" Diesel Engines conceptually require 'greater protection' against metal to
" metal contact - due to their 'Higher Performance Engines' - not - that they
" use Diesel Fuel.
"
" HP oils traditionally had ZDDP packages - due to EPA pressures - gone is
" that 'Certified' Rating...... now to obtain HP Oils, for your Hot Yamaha Bike
" or Kawi 'Z' or your 'Vette you must look for 'Diesel Certified' oil as it
" will contain the HP protection package of yesteryear.

not true of all diesel oils! api rated ci and earlier oils have the
higher zddp levels but much diesel oil today has a new cj rating in
which the zddp level is reduced.

" When the EPA pushed to get rid of the ZDDP packages - the Trucking Industry,
" faced with huge down time / repair bills struck back.

...and ci rated oil has not been eliminated.

" - the Government then allowed the
" protective packages to continue under the HD Diesel 'Certified' Catagories -
" whose weight limits included Truck & SUV - allowing 'wiggle room' by the
" Manufacturers.
"
"
" The EPA wants smaller clearences in engine parts so that the Oil Distillers
" can make more 'Energy Conserving Oils' - instead of 'High Performance Oils'
" which require a ZDDP package.
"
"
" []
"
"
" Make sure you find one that is approved for use in Diesel Engines. It
" will clearly say it on the container.
"
" If you can't find it on the container, you've got the wrong stuff.

also make sure it says api ci-4 and not cj-4.

" - the truck is easier to start if you use the 5W-40.

yep; i found 15w40 a bit hard to crank when temps were in the teens.

" long as it's got that ZDDP - good to go.

true, but just saying 'diesel oil' isn't a guarantee; you have to look
for the api rating too. anything sj or cj or later will not have high
zddp.
