Subject: [Amc-list] Carb adjustment

I had some problems with my duaghters 83 Spirit with
258 and BBD carb.  I did an ignition/Nutter bypass
and, after setting the timing to 8 BTDC, I can't get
the idles to below 900-950.  All of the adjustment
screws are out (ie, not touching anything) but it
won't adjust any lower.  Car starts and runs great,
just idles a bit high.  Is there an adjustment I'm
missing somewhere?  Thanks.

had similar events with my Eagle Kammback BBD -

the 'Fix' for BBD Nutter bypass carbs is obvious:


- Carefully Remove the carb 

- Place BBD length wise on a thick section of Steel I-Beam

- Bring into contact at high velocity, a 5Lb. sledge hammer
  dead center on Carb body.

- Set BBD carb body on a section of White Marble - 
affix with construction Glue - wire as a Shop Lamp

- Construct a suitable shade using a rare AMC 401
'Dual Snorkle' Air Filter Housing.

Used Weber carbs from JEEP Wranglers / Cherokees etc. show up
on JEEP Yahoo lists 'n Forums - eBay too.

There is a kit out using the FORD  Motorcraft 2bbl on eBay.

MoPar had a 2bbl. carb that will work nicely - replaced their
BBD nightmare - someone on this list might have the specs.


BBD carbs are 'delicate' - clog easily - run REALLY WELL... when
absolutely perfect or fawned over with loving care endlessly -

like a neighbor who is a swell guy when
not out collecting the Heads of young children.


get rid of it for her safety.
