I've only seen a few that ran with a jumped chain.
just enough to know that they'll leave you scratching your head.
Most of them have caused a quite bit of grief before they are torn down "just to check to be sure".
It just seems so absurd that the chain can jump one tooth then stay there. 
I don't recall if Dave mentioned if he had the dist out and started from scratch on timing or if it was still in place. If it was in place and he had to do a bit of repositioning to get it running then that might be a pretty good indicator that it has jumped. If he had to install the dist then there is no easy way to be sure.
