Anything approached without some basic knowledge  could be
seen as 'not logical'  Bart - 

A 'junk' cast piston motor can take 6lbs. boost safely -

 return 50% HP
gain without an intercooler - so Turbo & plumbing.


What isn't logical ?  More fuel / air = more HP.


A roller cam conversion isn't logical to most rebuilders until
they come to understand much better performance and some
increase in fuel utilization - but the price knocks them out -
and there isn't any way around paying the asking price.


Not so with 'hairdryers' - but it takes talent / talented friends
to plumb the Turbo - & that takes work to cultivate - even
having a basic carbide chop saw & Tac Welder to tac the tubes 
together prior
to taking them to a welding shop - gotta' think ahead.


I put the Turbo mod out if nothing else - to give something
else to consider looking into beyond cam / carb / headers.


The people that do make the efforts to gain a basic knowledge
of conversions & what it takes & how to do it cheaply find
enjoyment in having NOT paid stupidly for bits that can be
found elsewhere - on the .net - for cheap.


Yahoogroups.com forums are great for this - their rosters
speak for themselves.


I got started on Turbos back in the 70s' at K&G SPEED in Haverstown 
Pa. - they  built rail HEMI motors for a lot of Pros. - tons of Chevy
Pro Stock mills - I rode in a Chevelle with one installed - in 
traffic - incredibly High Strung Beast - loved it - but not
practical at all for going anywhere except down a strip.


I had my 392 in for a street build - counter guy hipped me to
Turbocharging - how's & why's.


I agree in total Bart - not many can McGuyver together a running
hairdryer rig - it takes an interest & readings to see you can
do it without blowing huge cash on a 'hype' power system.


People paying $100.00 for an Aluminimum Tube with a
bend in it isn't someone I want managing my retirement
account - if I had one ;)


Using a GM '7749 ECM for $25.00 nets you a controller
designed for Turbocharging - all the Sunbird cars ran them.


Money gets blown on the intake manifold conversion for
EFi if one isn't available - that is where it takes talent
and contacts to get around wasting monies as you know :


Fabrication takes Money or Talent or Both.




I just paid $3.00Gal. unleaded for the Cherokee -

going to seriously look at LPG - NG conversion
both of which runs better with compression / Turbo
for the Coupe - I building to be able to going to meets & @ $3.00Gal.
that luxury is seriously 'crimped'.

They're talking $4.00 this Summer Season for Regular.....


Only downside I've found to paying $1.50Gal. for
these LPG motors are the Tanks available - all steel -
& way too heavy.


I don't think a welded together Aluminimum Tank
is Legal - but I'm more interested than I am reluctant.

Your preaching to the choirdude. I don't give a shit how easy it 
supposedly is to turdblow something with magical junkyard parts! Only 
a small fraction of people out there can McGuyver together shit like 
that.YOur always whoring this bullshit turdblow recipe Brien. I'm 
not saying only a carburated V8 is the only game in town as for as 
improving power in your AMC.I just don't like how you front something 
that's not a logical performance mod.
