Re: [Amc-list] truck arms

Tom-

In response to this and your earlier email that pretty much contained "4-link 101" info, I would suggest that the people you have seen/heard of who have been unsuccessful perhaps did not do sufficient research, used substandard components, employed bad math or geometry, or did not have the proper equipment ot skills to perform the work. While people who are only familiar with leaf-spring suspensions would certainly benefit from it, explaining the principles you described in your earlier email on a board that contains fabricators would probably draw a "Well, duh" type of response.

The right angles, lengths, materials, and combinations of components (like these joints for example:)...

...have been allowing buggy and trail-rig builders to construct non-restrictive suspensions that still demonstrate the desired anti-squat characteristics with much larger forces acting on them than any "Sunday driver" for some time now. The hobby is seeing a departure from heim joints, as well. I even replaced the huge heims on my XJ with the RE Superflex joints I linked to above and it made a world of difference. People are doing 4-links on unibodies without mounts tearing out as well (XJ's and ZJ's). I think that this stuff just hasn't filtered its way down to the do-it-yourselfer's at the road car level, yet.
