Re: [Amc-list] Roller Camshafts - AMC -

Not for keeping the lifters pumped up.
Solids could be done that way with the old head and shaft rockers.
Kind of defeats the purpose though as you back up to 1.5 ratio on the rockers.
I had hoped the factory Mopar roller lifters would work, but it seems that the oil feed holes in them are too high.
They raised the casting and or oil feed galleries on small block Mopars when they started adding the factory roller cams. The Crane retrofit lifters are designed better for use in the AMC V-8's. Problem is they don't have the mass market driven lower costs of Oem pieces! Last I saw a set for the V8 was pushing $500. Ouch.

We've been seeing aftermarket cams dropping like flys over on the strokers forum.
We assume it is ZDDP related. Factory cams seem to be doing better.
I only run my American in warm weather, so I swithed over to Diesel Rotella oil, 15W-40 and still has good ZDDP.
Probably just use it in the 327 too as long as they leave the ZDDP levels alone.
STP 4 cyl treatment is a good source for it. One bottle is supposed to be the right level on a 4 quart change, Audi Site IIRC.

The roller cams let you not care much about ZDDP and pick up some HP and torque too.

Anyone listen to Mountainstage on PBS radio?
Mary Chapin Carpenter tonight, live show here. It'll be taped and broadcast at some future date.
Has me working today. Sound check going on, Not much to do but listen and wait for something to break!
