Yeah, another bad scene, indeed.
I've been around two.
One the guy had a massive brain fart and honest to whatever higher power you believe in this guy struck a match to check acid levels!
  Uh, he probably matched the guys description you give!!!
The second actually broadcast it's intent, but the guy couldn't get the charger off of it quick enough. He said he heard it start to whistle and went for the off switch on the charger, BOOM! He was way lucky as he had turned and hunched down to get the switch/dial on the charger. We walked him out of the shop and turned the hose on him. He was fine. The FSJ needed some serious cleanup work and the shop floor turned snow white where the acid washed it down. 
  That one was my personal hands on close encounter that taught me to really respect the battery for the potential bomb it is!!! The first one I just always chocked up to the guy being an idiot and that won't happen to me. The second guy was a real wakeup call to the fact that even doing everything proper things can go BOOM!
  Another shop story. My friend who gave me the 4.0L in my American came around a car in the shop and the guy working on it was using a floor jack, well he left the handle down, Something we all know is a big no-no. My buddy didn't see it till it had hooked both ankles. He threw out both hands to catch himself as he wnet down. Well, lets just say two broken wrists suck!!!
   I guess we are to the spot that says, try and be very careful cause you never know when it will be your turn!!! 
   I just went for a bike ride afterall!!!
