Re: [Amc-list] Steering box changes, early 60s to later

another good possibility occurs to me - the saginaw 605 vega ps box.
this is smaller than the regular sag 750 and has a -manual- box bolt
pattern and iirc pitman arm taper. sounds to me like it was designed
to be a direct swap for manual gear... it's very popular in the old
chevies etc crowds, to the point you can get new 'built' gears.

Wonderful news! The "spear-o-death" models are Saginaw boxes also, at
least back to 61 -- probably earlier.

I did a quick search. The GM 605 doesn't come up under "Vega Power
Steering Box", though it was used on the Vega. It's now popularly used
to convert 58-64 Chevy's to power steering. This site has all the parts
required:

These guys also have a lot of pieces and parts -- rebuilt power steering
pumps and brackets (brackets would require mods to fit AMCs) and
steering columns. Look like good prices too.
