Ugh! On what basis are the dinky brakes justified? They're
barely adequate as rears in a little pudgy American, and by
60's standards at that.

Fatter drums, more pressure, I'm sure you could make them
grippy, but I bet they wouldn't last as long! Maybe materials
have improved enough, who knows.
