and it's easy to get custom forged slugs for any engine, though you
can't get much below about $100/piston.  polish, balance, and shotpeen
- and maybe cryoprocess - the crank and rods and they'll be good for
plenty.

how about a studebaker-style blow-through turbo?  the gen1 has rather
small valves and ports and you can't do a lot about them, but a turbo
would get around that.
