I've checked everything you mentioned, today I'm going to put the thermostat 
in, I bought a nice toasty one 195F) ..I think that'll fix the biggest part 
of the problem, because quite frankly I think the carb is icing up, because 
if I turn it off for a few seconds it runs better.

195 may -sound- toasty, but it is in fact the standard thermostat.
