the bw30 series isn't all that bad if you can find someone who really
knows transmissions and not just a cookbook wrench-turner. it and
derivatives were used by companies like jaguar and bmw well up into
the '80s. aussies beef them and use them behind modified small v8s; i
have some notes... everything except maybe the valve body should be
available here.

for the stick, the best stock setup is the t14 3sp used behind 232s
and 258s, and occasionally 2bbl 290s and 304s, '68-'76. it bolts
right up in place of the t96, but it's ~2" shorter overall.

some years ago i noodled up an adapter plate that would mount a
mustang 3.8 ['93-5?] t5 to the pre-'72 bell. my chain of logic is a
little torturous, but these t5s have a longish input shaft and i came
to the comclusion that it's ~5/8" longer than the t96/t14 one. aha
says i, that's just enough for a plate... i haven't actually made one
though, but i can relate the idea as i have it if you're interested.
