Comanches came out with 2.8L V-6 -- I think they came out in 86. Anyway,
I've seen ONE Comanche with a V-6 factory installed. Most as you stated
are 4.0L.

there is a guy in town who has a 65 classic with 287
or 327. it has an automatic in it. it has fluid lines
going into the radiator. im not sure what auto it is.
i still have that t86/r10. would that be able to be
swapped into the 65 very easily? i have another 62
classic out of town for parts only. its a 3 speed
manual. would i be able to use the clutch system out
of that one to put into the 65? what about
bellhousing. how hard is it to find a bellhousing to
mate that trans up to that engine? would the tourqe
tube/driveshaft be a different length? sounds to me
like it might be a lot of work. if i could get parts
the guy might do the swap and put that trans/od in
use.
--------------------------------------------

1. If the engine/trans is original in the Classic, it's a 287 with a M-8
tranny. The 65 and 66 M-8 has both a throttle valve cable AND a vacuum
reference port (but not a modulator) on the trans. Sort of an unusual,
transitory setup. Previous models are identical except for the valve
body and only used a vacuum modulator, as did the M-11 introduced in 67.
I'm not sure where an M-10 comes into play, or if AMC even used one.
>From the logic behind later B-W trannys, however, the M-10 is a slightly
heavier duty version of the M-8 and was used behind 327s. NOTE THAT THIS
IS CONJECTURE ON MY PART CONCERNING THE M-10!! I've been assisting a guy
in Holland with a 65 Classic 287/M-8, and have a photo of the trans tag
and TV/vacuum setup, so I know that for sure (plus I checked the 65 & 66
TSMs in my efforts to assist him, and the 64 & 67 to find the break
points for controls).

2. There is one problem with swapping the T-86 you have into the 65 --
the torque tube. Maybe... What type of TT flange does the trans have?
56-62 models used a two bolt flange, on bolt on each side. 63-66 use a
four bolt flange, one bolt in each corner of a square flange. You can
switch between the two easily, but have to have the TT adapter for an OD
trans for the TT type being used.

3. The bell housing is easy -- any three speed bell housing from a V-8
will mount the transmission. I believe even a T-10 bell will work.

4. The clutch system is tricky. The 62 pedal might work on the 65, but I
can't say for sure. I believe they will interchange. The other parts
most likely will need some "adjusting". There's a support that bolts to
the body that may not interchange without drilling the body or bracket
for new holes, and may require some reshaping. The rod lengths may be
different and the rods may be different shapes. All I can tell you 100%
is that most parts from a 56-62 will interchange, and from a 63-66. The
two sets of years are totally different bodies. Of course V-8 parts
won't necessarily interchange with six cylinder parts. The clutch pedal
will, but the bell crank (shaft between engine and body that the rods
connect to) may be different. That means the rod lengths and bends might
be different also.

5. GOOD NEWS: if the trans you have is from a 63-65, the TT length is
the same with an OD or auto trans, so the TT won't be a problem if it's
the right style.

I am offering a real 71-74 Javelin AMX fiberglass hood for sale in
excellent condition. This hood came from a 1971 Jav AMX matador red car
I parted years ago. For a used hood, metal frame is near perfect as the
hood has never been in an accident and has been in dry storage since
1989. No rust anywhere that I can see. Back screen mesh is also
excellent as are the 4 hinge studs and the thin metal in the nose trim
area. Included is a real nice hood nose trim with one small ding in the
dead center and a nice Javelin script emblem. The only issues are some
missing glass (approx 2 inches) on each of the back corners where the
hood looks like it was mishandled. There is also a very small area of
glass worn in the direct center of the stripe. All in all, pretty easy
and basic glass repairs. The rest of fiberglass sandwich is near
perfect. There is a slight amount of separation down the middle between
the glass and the metal skin. Again, very normal for a 35 year old hood.
You will have to strip the paint and metal underside, re-gel and do some
glass work to make this hood show quality. I hope that is obvious with a
used fiberglass hood.

I am in Orlando Florida and would like to make this a local pick up
only. I would be willing to drive 2 hours any direction in FL (or to
Jacksonville and the GA border) or meet you half-way to south FL if
you'll pay my gas. My buddies at APP in Cocoa said they can crate and
ship pretty cheaply if need be. I have not gotten any prices for
shipping from them so you would have to work it out with Bruce but I can
deliver to Cocoa for free.

Sell price with the hood, nose trim and emblem is $350. Let me know if
you need pictures (jeff.thomas@xxxxxxxx).

The trailer lights work just as the truck lights. No left blinker, no
left brake light.

Art.
I had the same prob. with my 93 grand cherokee a few years back.
swapped out bulbs, checked every fuse, everything i could think of.
nothing worked.
got out my meter and probed the socket got nothing so i probed the
wire a few inches back and it was hot, probed the wire right behind the socket, still hot but no juice in the socket still. peeled back the insulation and found the the wire had corroded in the factory crimp at the socket so I had to open the crimp, strip the wire back,
and recrimp on clean wire. then solder the connection for extra measure.
anyway hope this helps.

Also if the trailer does it too.
maybe there is an open circuit ahead
of where the trailer harness is spliced to the truck harness.
or even right where it is spliced.
I would have some one hold the brake.
and just probe the wire back from the taillight till you get juice
and that should be where the circuit is open.

If you are concerned about Cylinder wall thickness find a shop that can
sonic test it for you. Should be less than $100. It will set your mind at
ease and possably save you a LOT of money if your block turns out to be too
thin to use. I would like to see .125 as a minimum thickness although I have
seen quite a few 305 chevy blocks live at .090 after boring.
But HEY,,, that's just ME!!

List,
I have access to a pair of front seats and a rear seat assembly for a
1972 Gremlin. This also includes a supposed good gasoline tank with a
pin hole leak. If anyone is interested in them get a hold of me and I
will pass on the contact phone number.
I do not believe there is much money involved if any. The location is
West side of Phoenix AZ.
