even with it, it's pretty useless. -power- throttles well, but -rpm-
does not. the one street car i heard of with a turboprop in it had
an automatic trans and was driven more with the brake than the
throttle. iirc it 'idled' at almost 60 mph.

now if you replace the alternator with a hydrostatic transmission...

i can't point to my source, but iirc the '65 american 2dr sed was 2640
lbs and the '66, 2625. the 199/232 is almost exactly the same weight
as the 196 as evidenced by use of the exact same front springs for
both in '64-up americans.

make sure you're comparing apples and apples; creeping std. equip can
add a startling amount to 'bare' weights.

IIRC The Kammback could be had in a "Limited" form!
I seem to remember one or two coming thru the dealer way back when.

It does complicate things. A real comparison would have to
include pretty much identical configuration (manual steering,
trans, six, bench seat, etc)

But if 1950 is 2400 and change, and 1965 is 26xx, that's not
much, considering it's a foot longer. 66 to 1970, now that's
400 lbs -- where did it all go?!

Weights seem to balloon in the 1970's. By no coincidence my
interest in cars wanes then too; not weight so much as doodads
and electric window winders and such foolishness.

Bryan.Congrats on the photo.I saw the picture, and with much
admiration, because i cannot wait for to see that smile on my own sons
face.It's a Carguys dream,i think,to have the fun factor,show instantly.I'v
thought quite often,of how many kids, never felt a V 8 power up in tire
smoke, and take off in a cool line of twinn tire tracks,or start going
sidways, and correct for it while holding her wide open, coming out of the
hole sideways,of course with the wheels pointing straight YEE HAA.GOD i
LOVE BURNOUTS.Congratulations again,it's a kodak moment.Walter UPSTATE N.Y.
