A: So far I haven't run into one I couldn't dismantle. The correct Orings
never seem to be available, so I just take them out and reassemble the valve
unitl I can find another one. It won't jam to one side anymore, but it also
won't block the fluid from passing through. On a totally sealed one, I would
take the lines off coming out of the valve (one at a time) and flush the
master cyl with lots of methyl hydrate pumped out through the valve then use
Dot4 with ABS lubricant to try to "renew" it.

Jim,

If that happens how do you fix it? I don't see any way to take
the
combination valve apart.

you can even go with chrome ones.

I bought a rear bumper for the Javelin a few years ago and it is just as
nice now as it was then. I would suggest though that if you buy it directly
from them at a show, take the time to unwrap the bumper and check for any
imperfections. I found a small one on the bumper I bought but it was
already home and not that bad. But if your talking a real show car, take
the time. I am very happy with the quality though and it has stood the test
of time. Plus it looks a whole lot better than the old one.

I saw the post of the weight comparisons between a
302-304. The 302 may well be lighter but not by half.
Have you ever stripped a 302 of the crank, heads, etc.
There is nothing there!!! Probably if you look up the
word "small block" in the dictionary they show a
289-302.
Last months issue of 4x4 garage has an article of
engine swaps, it may be JP magazine. One of those off
road mags. They list all popular engines sizes and
weights. I can't remember the exact weight but it
wasn't half, I would have noticed that. The only thing
that struck me blind was how heavy the iron duke four
banger is......Russ

The internet has the really amazing capabilities called
search engines. I have noticed that they weigh far less
than an AMC V8, but if you use one it will come up
with the following URL.

http://www.241computers.com/ford/ContentExpress20-30-38.html

If you read the table at that site it lists the AMC v8
at 540 lbs and the Ford 302 at 450/460 lbs. Which
sounds about right.
At about ? the weight of an AMC is--------the winna!
1098cc 253 Midget/Sprite
Which would probably fit nice in an early Rambler
and improve the handling too!
And surprise, it was used in an early Rambler, the
Metropolitan.

close but... the met was sort-of a rambler, being made by austin [later
to become british leyland] for nash. also, the engine it used was the
bl b-series, not the 948/1098/1275cc a-series. i think it started at
~1200 but grew to ~1500 in the met and ~1800 in a revised 5-main
version in the mgb. i believe the ~300cc c-series 6 is a b-and-a-half.

i also note they say a 199 weighs 500 lbs. recalling the pr flack
that they shaved 90lbs from the 258 in '81, that would make it about
410... i believe the 4.0 falls somewhere in between.

Thanks guys for all the comments.
I'd be getting a front bumper for my 65 Ambassador and don't need 100% show quality and wouldn't cry about core quality as I don't have any good straight cores anyway!
I painted the bumpers on the American and like the look, but don't think it would be fitting on the Ambassador.
