Jack, before you do a compression check pulling the valve cover might
be quicker if it's the two bolt in top type. That will show a stuck
valve/misplaced pushrod/collapsed lifter right away. The only thing it
won't show is a burnt valve or blown head gasket (could be blown on the 
outside instead of between cylinders?). Or even worse, a hole in the
piston. Of course it would have a lot of blow-by/crankcase pressure if
that was the case, should be obvious from my unfortunate experience!

Doesn't mean it couldn't be a bent or disconnected push rod as you
mention, that would be preferable.  My luck or lack of it, it's a burnt 
valve.

Hmmm... no one ever said anything about longer pushrods when I had mine 
reground! Wait a minute... that's because the 196 has adjustable
rockers! 0.10" doesn't make enough difference with that engine to
require longer pushrods, plenty adjustment for it. 

You had me going for just a minute! I bent a pushrod when one came
loose due to a stuck valve. Thethought ran through my mind that may
have been the problem, but then I remember I ran that engine with the
cam for 4-5 years with no problems until I parked it for four months
awaiting time and weather for a rear end bearing replacement.

well i must really be bored.i went to eddie stakes site and added up the total javelin production ## including amx and it comes to 261,196 javelins and amx,s from 1968 thru 1974.chevrolet made 243,115 1969 camaro,s total domestic and export.that means that amc made 18,081 more javelins and amx,s in 7 years than chevrolet made 1969 camaros.that doesnt account for the firebird that can be built either way.see ya babz

I've had good luck with the T-shirt my wife bought from Richard Estermyer 
several years ago.  It has a bright, multi-colored picture of several 
Javelins.  I've had several people walk up to me at swap meets and ask about 
Javelins or AMCs.

I once installed a HD clutch / pressure plate into my
'65 Plymouth Valient 100 post coupe.

I'll never run a HD pressure plate again unless
I've hydraulics - my leg would start shaking
waiting for the lights to turn Green @~!

toploaders.  amc ran out the last few t14s in '75-6 gremlins.  most

dave'll also want the t150 input shaft pilot bushing.  it's the only
amc with a 0.670" bore.

If their Rambler spinners, NOS and in New condition they will bring a respectable chunk of change on evil bay! 
  A lot depends on the actual condition as a lot of NOS stuff is scuffed from shelf wear and has pitted chrome etc;
