HI All:
I've been restoring a 1968 Rebel Model 550 for the last 6 years - and am
currently in a fix.
After reupholstering with original 1968 material, great paint job; having a
new foam dash made ($$$); I'm at a point where the original front grille is
too damaged for any repair.
Will anyone help me locate a NOS or well survived grille?
It's the last hurdle for me - and then it has morphed from the wife calling
it "That damn car in the garage." into "Wow...that's better than I ever -
ever thought possible!".

Anyone out there have a 390 crank they would part
with? I am building a pretty much stock 69 390 fora
guy in Milwaukee and we found out his crank is junk.

annual Car, Truck and Motorcycle show. There will be

Russ, I figured you probably knew about how the
"foam grille" would be used, and also that most of the
people who contribute to the list would also. I was
just trying to clear that up for anyone out there who
might have been uninformed about how these things
work. On a similar note, there is also a process they
used to call "onion skin" at the tech companies I used
to contract with. In this method, a vat of resin is
used for the CNC work. A laser focuses at a certain
depth in the vat, and heats the resin in the shape of
the part. This process is repeated layer after layer
until a finished resin replica is reproduced.
Someone also commented on the CNC process, asking if
it meant it had to be done in metal. Strictly
speaking, no, it does not. CNC simply means Computer
Numerical Control. Any process which uses a
coordinate system to produce parts can use the CNC
methodology. Some high-tech plastics, and lamination
technology like Carbon Fiber and Kevlar also use CNC
systems to finish out the part. At one time, I did a
contract turning contact lenses on a lathe. I am sure
Nick Alfano could clarify further as far as common
processes are concerned on one of these grilles, as he
is at least current in the machine shop industry.
Personally, I think a painted metal grille could be
made indistinguishable from plastic in a fairly close
inspection. It could also be developed into a
reasonably accurate and relatively inexpensive
process.

YEah, a single glance at an actual object beats hours of staring
at drawings! Human beans are good and intuiting weaknesses etc
in real life.

Yeah, well I could get him to do more scraping if we hadn't picked up the Digital pack on cable to keep me company. Now it's hard to drag him away from the set! Not that I realy have the ambition to try.
Picked up my medical management forms today and they state that I am incapacitated for an undetermined amount of time. I guess that's Docter speak for he can't work till we decide he is OK.
I've got 4 1/2 weeks of sick time left then 3 weeks of acumulated vacation time. If I ain't right by then I can apply for catastrophic leave, which will allow my wife and friends to donate their sick time up till the 16th of July 2007! I should be right by then. I may be slightly insane if it takes that long!

Sure was a surprise when I caught the list today! We've had a dearth of
messages lately -- about 7 a day on average. Maybe it was because of the
recent shows, and everyone was prepping cars or traveling to/from? Well,

I'll be home from Afghanistan sometime in the 15-20 September timeframe.
I did get to go to the DVAMO show at Hershey in May, but that's the only
AMC show I got to see this year! The AMCRC National was witin a couple
hour drive, and the AACA had their regional right in Dover, and I was
over here missing it all!! I won't be close to ANY AMC shows once I
retire to SC. The nearest will be Charlotte NC or a regioanl in Atlanta,
both about four hours away. Maybe I can get some of the SC AMCers
together though...
Anyway, if there is a show within a 3-4 hour drive of Dover I'd surely
like to know. The wife and I want to go off for a weekend, and I already
told her I wanted to work one day of a show in. I just don't want to
spend much more than half a day getting there and back. I think DVAMO
has a fall show???
