I have heard about this so called painless dent removal and wonder if
anyone has had any experience with this kind of repair? I have a small
dent in the hatch on my orange car near the trunk lock that the paint is
not marred or broken just dented. It is near the trunk lock and is
accessible if the locking mechanism in the hatch is removed. I'd like to
see if one of these guys can fix it so I can preserve the original paint
since it is so nice on the car.

well, i learned something in all this discussion. one nit though:
both r12 and r134a are 'freon', a dupont umbrella trademark for
fluorinated hydrocarbon refrigerants. there are many others too.

Any one on the AMC-list been able to find any of the Fresh Cherries Green
Gremlins? I believe most of the them are being shipped to Walmarts on the East
Coast area. I can find the Black ones on the west coast and the blue in the
midewst but I've yet find a green one. I'm willling to trade for the Green
with either the Black or the Blue. I've also been unable to find any of the
1/64th Fresh Cherries Pacers. I found prenty of Ford; Pinto, Mustang IIs &
Mavericks but no AMCs what so ever. thanks Larry R. Daum

I am parting out this 77 AMX and it has the 2x2 gauge
package. Where is the water temp sending unit?? Most
of the idiot lights location has always been right by
the thermostat housing, but 77 had a head redesign and
the boss for the sending unit is gone. Where might it be????.....Russ

The first time Mr. Doc asked about AMC ownership, an answer was posted; this repetition of the 4/27/06 response is short and sweet: '67 Ambassador DPL convertible, '68 Rebel 550 convertible, '69 AMX [BBG], '71 Ambassador Brougham wagon, '75 Matador Brougham [Cassini], '79 Spirit DL liftback, and '83 Eagle [Sport] wagon. Today's total is two; tomorrow's AMC list may be none. We're not the same AMC fans that we were at age 18 or even at 30.

AMC as a business will continue: parts made for replacement will be bought, words keyed up for profit will be sold, and family will gather for occasional postmortems.

Someday, whoever still enjoys AMC might buy a big book from McFarland or Bentley and see how big and significant the "forgotten line" of AMC was.
If it won't be a Mr./Ms./Dr. not reading now, it may be your children.
Sadly, unless they hold cards in some all-American branch libraries, the access to that history won't be free. It's sad when "Rambler Mentality" leads to self-defeat. AMC itself shot its chances for success during 33 years; AMC clubs lobbed shots over 20; AMC lists shot their contributors down in the online decade, and AMC fans shot themselves in the feet with leaden regularity. If "SST" did not mean "Supersonic Transport" to AMC, "Shooting For Stars" was not a concept car AMC hobbyists cared to build. Seeing AMC in the collectible car stars was a concept beyond AMC dreams.
Some things have promising beginnings; some things dwindle to sad ends.

It is commonly known that R-12 is a ozone depleating substance so it should not be purged into the atmosphere but should be recovered and disposed of properly your children will thank you. I dont know what the law,s are in the USA but if you vent in Canada you are liable for a $ 50,000 dollar fine

The issue with the hoses is that R-134a molecules are small enough to bleed
through them. It was the late 80's when the industry started switching to
barrier type hoses which don't have this problem. Also, in the case of
anything sold new in the US or Canada as a Rambler, the factory hoses are
old enough where they're likely bad by now anyway.

The water temp sender is located near the rear of the head, left side,
on late model AMC sixes. It's a lot smaller diameter than the early
sender. It's close to the left rear head bolt.

A good friend of mine kept me abreast of the happenings during this time
era here in the valley of the sun as discoveries were being made. As a
side bar to this subject the outfit that supplied him with replacement
compressors for A/C compressor repairs finally sent a representative out
to talk to him. The subject, why was he the only customer of theirs that
was NOT sending compressors back as defective? While the issues of the
hoses and the smaller molecular structure of R-134 is true, the real
world was demonstrating that the existing hoses in use were permeated so
heavily that there porosity was no longer an issue and the systems would
hold a long term charge providing of course gaskets were good. The only
comment I can make to this as I am pretty much experiencing the same
phenomenon my self. If the A/C unit has spent many years as defective
due to lack of pressure, the only problems I have seen trying to bring
it back alive using r-134 was gasket blowing due to the fact that they
were dried out. Once all the gaskets are fixed, the hoses have not given
any problems. Of course they are inspected prior to use for damage and
if found replaced or rebuilt as required. The heat and the sun (UV) do a
number on rubber around here.

Well----------that can be a value judgment, the newest 134 conversion I
have done is a 1992, the oldest is a 1975 and the hoses were re-used
after inspection.
My A/C had better work, I spent 6 hours in the car today and it 112 F in
the afternoon. That is not a good time to drive around with a defective
A/C.

The size may very by year, the 1975 engine I pulled from a Pacer that I
use in my 1980 Spirit uses the same size sensor as the Spirit engine
did. The 1975 location is in the front, the 1980 location is in the rear
as described.
