I've seen seat-belts shredded from some impacts -
and anchors ripped thru sheetmetal floors.

The way to go is to create a crossmember between
the frame rails and anchor to it.

Bolt in crossmembers don't count - frames shift
and shear bolts in unequal impacts.

Some thick wall boxed tube-ing - flange &
welded in to keep the groceries on the seat
will keep you from sleeping on the couch when
the topic comes up with the Little Lady.

i have seen the rambler wagon with the air bags. i dont want all the air bags. i have coil over suspension on my neon. i use it mostly for when i go on leave. frank, you know how that is, leave, go cross country to see family. all the luggage in the trunk, make the car squat. not saying that the rambler will be used for going cross country on leave really. maybe once or twice. will ALWAYS be driving it to the car shows. if i put luggage for a few days stay, or what not in the trunk, need to be able to level it out. also, the reason for the 4 wheel disk brakes, stiffer suspension, lower stance, i plan on being able to take it to the road course from time to time to play. not something serious enough for roll cage ect. just something to play with on the road course and have plenty of fun. i am originaly from the north west. lots of narrow twisty roads along the mountains also. and driving the car thru them as it is now? almost a night mare with the body roll and rear end
being sloppy. want it to be fun to drive.

frank, my wife has recieved that tsm. was sketchy about opening it because it had no name on it, just an address from deleware. but, it made it there in good shape.

maybe i will wait on that front suspension for when i get home. one of the guys here, never seeing a rambler, claims to have a buddy with a jav that is a very competent road racer. suggested looking into adapting a-arms from one of them to fit. im thinking it will take a lot of work, but i havent gotten to see the suspension of a jav real close. anyway, i have torch, welder, will fabricate if needed.

Please contact Jeffrey Thomas at jeff.thomas@xxxxxxxx for information on
the 71-74 Javelin AMX Registry. After several years of stellar
performance, Cliff Danley has passed the reigns of the database over to
me. For those of you already in the database let's re-validate your
contact and vehicle information. Please drop me a line. For those of you
who are new to the AMC scene or have never had your car added to the
list I would encourage you to do so soon. The intent of the registry is
to track all the unique features of our favorite cars in one national
database. It should serve to answer a lot of puzzling questions about
running factory changes but also it should be a great way to meet new
people and share stories and information about your car. Please take
this invitation and distribute it out to anyone you know who has a 71-74
Javelin AMX. I need people, bodies and email addresses. Hope to hear
from you soon !!!

Thanks. J T

Weird, I sent two link through the AMXfiles interface, one went through
unscathed, the other ended up as an attachment. Go figure. Anyways, here
it is again...

Hey, and check out entry #140, also a Matador...

Hey Jeff,

Are you sure your name isn't Thomas Jeffrey?

Just kidding, but it would be appropriate.

As an aside, my wife and I named our youngest son
Bradley David and my father-in-law always said that
reminded him of the David Bradley manure spreader he
had back on the farm.

Anyway do you want 71-74 Javelins as well as
Javelin/AMX's in the database?

Joe Fulton

incase i never mentioned. i am not afraid to do some hacking and fabricating due to the reason i own 2 identical 62 rambler classic custom 2 door cars. i have the one that is my baby i inherited. the other one, someone saw the one i drive, left a note on the window they had one like it, i called. it has been rolled. the body is rusted out, interior is shot. engine has sand down the carb and in the intake, and was only running on 3 cylinders when parked. trans still good and rear good. suspension is still good also. if i screw something up, i have backup parts for suspension and rear axle and the 3 speed tranny.
the car was not rolled all that bad. rolled in soft dirt, there are 2 dents in the roof. all glass is good except windshield. the fender mounted mirror on driver side shot thru it when it rolled. new upholstry and body work, i know someone who has 2 windshields his computer says are instock actually for the cars. rebuild the motor and the car could be on the road again. but my wife wont learn to drive a manual, and that is to much work for me for no one to drive. so, it is going to be a parts car.

anybody need parts that wold work off of one of these cars, when i get out of iraq, i wont have a problem working with you.

The flat black is painted on the grill, the areas to be painted silver
are sanded and cleaned with water. Lint from the rag use to clean it
left some lint on it. Being disabled and a model builder I took
different sizes of plastic model tubing to fit the air hose in my
nebulizer and made a removable low volume high pressure air nozzle to
blow the dust and fibers off the grill to clean it. Tomorrow it is
cleaning with prepsol and the taping start's. :-) Being in the advance
stages of emphazima the wife and my Dr's would have a fit if they knew
half of what I do. Quality of life is worth more than longevity. My old
VA Dr. of 5 years understands that. Now I have to educate a new one.

Subject: [AMC-List] T5 bell housing options for AMC applications
To: mail@xxxxxxxxxxxx
Message-ID: <000201c67d2b$edaf1d20$ebdd0d82@john1>
Content-Type: text/plain;	charset="us-ascii"

The following information was posted earlier, due basically to lack of
clear description the information is incomplete or misleading.

Snip
Get the bell housing from any 79 or later six cylinder manual shift car.
That
has the bolt pattern for the T-5 and will bolt to the 304.
Snip
This information is incomplete both in application and the sources
available

SNIP
Actually from a 1977 or later 304 V8 or I-6 manual shift car that uses
the SR-4 T-4 or T-5 transmission. NOT 4 CYLINDER VERSIONS!
Make sure you are getting the throw out arm and bearing with the bell
housing! 3 speed manual transmission bell housing will not work.
SNIP
This information is complete as far as it goes. As far as I know AMC
started using the SR-4 (a family related transmission) in 1977. They
could have used them earlier, that I am unable to determine but they
were the 4 speed installed in I-6 and 2bbl V8 applications for the 1977
Hornet AMX. Any earlier use of this transmission would most probably
have been in I-6 applications for the "Sporty" image if any. Locating
any of the I-6 or V8 SR4, T4 or later T-5 equiped AMC 2wheel drive
automobiles as a Donor car will supply you with a Bell housing, clutch
throw out arm and throw out bearing and the transmission input shaft
bearing retainer needed to bolt a world class Mustang transmission into
or on any AMC I-6 from 1972 on or AMC V8 of what has been commonly
referred to as the 2nd generation v8's. That is the 290, 304, 343, 360,
390 or 401 engines. The clutch linkage from those 4 speed application
cars bolt correctly to any given clutch linkage existing in any AMC car
that came from the factory with those engines in them.
I caution to point out;
Any 4 cylinder application bell housing will not work! Unless of course
you want to install a small block chevy V8 and if you do in that case a
bell housing for an SR4 etc. with the 151 cu in I-4 has the small block
chevy bolt pattern.
Also, a 3 speed (dedicated only) bell housing will not work.!!!!! With
one exception.
There is a bell housing referred to as a multiple application bell
housing. It is drilled (some times) for up to 3 different transmissions.
I have never seen one. I have never had any one report to me that they
found one and what they found it in. I have never been able to determine
what they were installed in. I can not help you find one if I do not
know what it looks like or where to go to look for one or even what the
odds are of ever finding one is. But you do need a description.
However if I am able to find more out about them I will add that
information to the limited information I carry for this conversion on my
T5 data sheet.
>From what I have on file the bell housing may have holes drilled in it
for up to 3 different manual transmission applications. One of which may
be the SR4, t4 or t5 application, another may be for a 3 speed
transmission. I have no clue what the 3rd set of holes may be if they
exist at all.
All of the holes may be drilled and tapped. All of the holes may be
drilled and only some tapped. Some of the holes may be drilled, some
tapped and an empty unmarked location for other holes that the user
would have to locate and tap.
I have no idea what years they were available, whether they were
universally used during a given time period or if they randomly showed
up every now and then. I am not sure whether they were used just on the
cars or on the Jeeps too. From what little information I have been able
to pick up on them over the last 10 years is they seem to border on
being a myth.
Other options that are out there.
Eagle application bell housings. They are there. They use a hydraulic
clutch system unique to the Eagle and the slave cylinder rebuilt kits
started being manufactured from onobtainium about 5 years ago. Not only
that but you have to install a clutch master cylinder on your car in
order to use them.
Various Jeep applications. I am completely un-familiar with Jeep
applications. Some of them seem to use the basic AMC mechanical clutch
linkage, others seem to use a hydraulic throw-out bearing system
requiring a hydraulic clutch. All of these have been used by various
people at various times according to my notes. Some more successful than
others.
When asked about bell housing recommendations through a format that
wants short answers my best response would be to point a direction out
that has the widest selection of bolt on applications. That is any AMC 2
wheel drive I-6 or V8 automobile that uses an SR4, T4 or T5 AMC
transmission. These generally are 1977 and newer. When looking get the
throw out arm and bearing with it. I have seen E-bay ads selling a bell
housing that will not use a throw out arm. As far as I am concerned, if
it ain't got a throw out arm with it, don't buy it. A lot of people have
been taken that way. Also keep in mind that after Renault got it's
operating hooks into AMC a number of Jeeps used Renault based 5 speeds
that weren't any better than the T5 AMC used. But buying a bell housing
from one with out confirmation that it would work gets you an aluminum
paper weight.
As some of you know, I have been running a world class T5 in my 390 (as
the British would say, cooking version) Javelin for over 15 years now.
There are issues that you have to deal with as in any modification but
if you understand the issues and are selective on your modifications it
is a very satisfactory conversion.
Hope this clears up a few things.
Thanks
John
