Bill,

It sounds like you may have exceeded their standard
girth rate and they are applying an oversize package
fee which can add a lot to the cost.  Consider
breaking it down into two packages or fitting them in
a smaller box.  Most shipping companies like UPS,
FedEx, DHL and USPS have size requirements for normal
pricing and then start charging high handling fees for
items over that size.
