HELP! nothing's happening!

OK, here's where I really get to let my ignorance
shine. I just swapped in a 904 Torque Command auto in
place of the three-speed in my 258 Gremlin.
Everything ran just beautifully, but developed one
hell of a leak on the 200+ mile maiden voyage. I
pulled it all out again(a week after getting it back
in), and replaced all the seals(I know, I know, should
have done that before it went in). I noticed the drain
plug on the torque converter was leaking, appeared to
fit very loosely, as if stripped. So I bought a new
torque converter, and put everything back in.
Yesterday, I filled it up for the first time, got
in, and... nothing. NOTHING at all. I even got out and
checked the shifter linkage and the driveshaft just to
make sure I didn't forget 'em somehow. Even pulled the
inspection plate and made sure I remembered to bolt
the converter to the drive plate. Figured I just
overfilled it. So I pulled the pan and drained it out
completely, and did it again, according to the 1973
TSM, as seen on "The Old Car Manual Project" site,

  http://www.tocmp.com

Chrysler sources I have read give the same procedure.
I've done this twice now since that time, and still no
movement. I am convinced the throttle linkage and
shifter linkage are adjusted correctly.
I did adjust the bands as a matter of course while
the trans was out of the car. I was very careful with
this adjustment, but assuming I did it wrong, would
THAT stop the transmission from moving the car? I have
always been a manual transmission guy, and this kind
of weirdness with automatics is a prime reason why.
This car ran great, and I even drove it right into the
spot where I did the R&R. Of course, I DID order the
converter from Auto Zone(idiot that I am). Anybody
ever have to exchange something this big from there?
It was a special order, naturally.
BTW, the transmission never got hot or was allowed to
reach slipping stage during the limp-home process. The
filter and pan were clean, with no metal or clutch
debris.
I really need to get Molly on the road, as my last
drivable vehicle is the 84 1-ton Chevy camper van I
use for a retriever(8-10 MPG hopefully). Of course, I
COULD just use my son's 290 American /;]
Ripping my beard out by the roots,
mike
